The Pearls of SSO hosts fundraising events to support Sigma Sigma Omega’s program initiatives and college scholarships.

Pearls of SSO Events

  • An annual fundraising event held in partnership with the Alpha Community Foundation of Oklahoma, Inc. The event's theme is centered around the style and pageantry of one of the most well-known horse races in the world - the Kentucky Derby. All proceeds raised will be used for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Sigma Sigma Omega SOAR Program Initiatives and to support the Alpha Community Foundation.

  • A pageant for girls ages 4-15. The mission of the Little Miss AKA Pageant is to provide social development through cultural and educational workshops, promote community service and volunteerism, and promote unity and a spirit of friendship that is instilled in the participants through a fun, cooperative, and memorable environment. All proceeds raised will be used for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Sigma Sigma Omega SOAR Program Initiatives.

  • The goal of the Ivy Pickleball Classic is to increase awareness of pickleball, the fastest-growing sport in the country, and to highlight the mental and physical health benefits of playing the game. The Pearls of SSO will donate proceeds from the event to organizations serving the Oklahoma City area.

  • A sophisticated event celebrating the end of summer while supporting the next generation of scholars. All proceeds raised from the All White Affair will go towards initiating and establishing the Cheryl Maynard Fowler Scholarship Endowment through Alpha Kappa Alpha Educational Foundation.

Sororing to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood Program Initiatives. 

  • Childhood Hunger Initiative Power Pack – Sigma Sigma Omega is partnering with TheCovenant Church to provide weekend and holiday meals to children in need in the OklahomaCity area.

    YLI - An interactive leadership development program to empower and engage youth ages 11-13.

  • Financial Wellness & Planned Giving – provide community programs focused on efforts to assist with legacy planning supported by expert members and wealth management partners.

    Support Women Entrepreneurs – provide community programs to promote, celebrate, enhance, reach, raise visibility and offer access for greater revenue-generating opportunities.

    Black Dollar Days – intentionally support Black-owned businesses in the month of June.

  • Tree Planting – plant trees around the Oklahoma City area.

    Community and Home Gardens – create community and home gardens to reduce negative environmental impact and promote sustainable agriculture.

  • Voter Education, Registration, and Mobilization – efforts to empower the OKC community to utilize their most powerful tools of community change and advocacy during local, state, and national elections.

  • Faded and Educated Back-to-School Event. A back-to-school event that provides free haircuts and hairstyles, back-to-school supplies, and uniforms for students headed back to school.

    Cheryl Maynard Fowler Memorial Scholarship – awarded annually to high school seniors in the Oklahoma City area.
